When people think of drones in wedding videos, they often imagine sweeping shots of the venue or a grand aerial view of the church or marquee. And yes, those shots are beautiful. But for me, using a drone is about much more than that. It’s a way to tell the story of the day from a fresh perspective and add cinematic moments that couples might never see otherwise.
Why I Love Using Drones in Wedding Videography
Some of my favourite shots are simple yet unforgettable. Flying out over a lake towards a couple as they stand together feels magical—the sunlight bouncing on the water, the reflections of the trees, and that little moment of anticipation as they look at each other. Or capturing a couple on a cliff overlooking the sea—there’s something about the scale and drama of that scene that makes it feel epic, yet intimate at the same time.
I also love capturing the fun, celebratory moments. When the weather is kind, I often suggest couples have their first dance outside. Filming from above gives a real sense of freedom and joy, with the surrounding scenery framing the moment beautifully. Flying over a confetti tunnel is another favourite—it captures the energy and excitement of guests cheering as they shower the newlyweds in colour.
Drones are also perfect for big group shots. When there are lots of guests gathered together, capturing everyone from above ensures no one is left out and gives a unique, cinematic perspective on the day. It’s a shot that really highlights the scale of the celebration and becomes a keepsake that couples love looking back on.

Complimentary Drone Footage in Every Package
Drone footage is included in all my wedding packages at no extra cost. I want every couple to enjoy these cinematic perspectives without worrying about additional fees. Of course, professionalism is key. I always make sure I have the right permissions to fly, particularly at private or historic venues. For example, one of my favourite places to film is Rockbeare Manor in Devon. This venue just so happens to be under the flight path for Exeter Airport, which is right around the corner from the venue. While this does mean I can’t pop up my drone whenever I fancy during the day, I am well versed in the procedure for obtaining permission and booking timeslots so that my couples don’t miss out and I don’t get in trouble!

Showcasing the Beauty of the Southwest UK
Working across the Southwest UK, from Devon and Cornwall to Somerset and beyond, I love incorporating the natural beauty of the region into my videos. Rolling countryside, rugged coastlines, and elegant manor grounds all make incredible backdrops, and drones help me capture them while keeping the focus on the couple and their story.
Every wedding is different, which is one of the reasons I enjoy getting my drone out so much. Some days it’s calm and sunny, perfect for outdoor dances. Other days it’s dramatic skies over the cliffs, giving a moody, cinematic feel. Either way, I’m always looking for the best way to make each couple’s video unique.

The Value of Drone Videography
Watching the finished videos back is one of my favourite parts of the job. I love seeing not just the stunning landscapes, but the laughter, love, and emotion of the day captured from above. That’s the real value of drone videography, it adds a perspective that is cinematic, emotive, and entirely unforgettable.
