Since I have been rather busy behind the scenes, gearing up for a wedding packed yea. I thought I would do a short little blog post about one of the extra services I offer. If you are looking to add a little extra to your day, or if you have lots of family and friends coming from up country, or even coming from abroad, a Guests Messages video can be an amazing addition to your day! So what exactly is a Guest Messages video I hear you ask….
It’s a sneaky little extra video on top of your Highlights and Feature films, it can be long or short with dozens of guests rambling on or it can be short and sweet. Usually during the evening, I will find myself a nice quiet little corner somewhere. Set up a microphone and a tripod camera, and I will try to lure your guests away from the dance floor to leave a message. This usually goes down extremely well, with a whole variety of messages that get left. Although I will offer advice on what to say, such as favourite memories, funny stories, advise for the future or just a short but sweet congratulations etc. Let’s just say, it’s never just as simple as that! Over the years when asking guests to leave a message, there isn’t much I haven’t heard….. or seen…. I have had guests singing songs, doing raps, news interview style messages, many many jokes, dancing and some not very PG moments!
I have had whole groups of guests banding together, singing along at the tops of their voices. Along with individual guests, launching into five minute long stories about the bride and groom. And then we come to the nudity, oh yes unfortunately I really do mean I have seen and caught it all on video! At the end of the day, I take no responsibility for what your guests choose to say or do. I just hit record, and away they go! 😉
On a serious note though, it can also be incredibly emotional and lovely to have sweet messages from grandparents and little ones in particular, to be able to look back on over the years.
I will always do my best to make sure that your nearest and dearest leave a message. I will ask for a list of names during our pre-wedding meeting, and then on the day I will often recruit a bridesmaid or groomsman to help round everyone up. After that it often turns into open season, it’s not uncommon to have a small queue of guests waiting to leave their messages.
So there you have it folks! Guest Messages videos are a fantastically weird, wonderful and fun addition to your wedding videos. They can be added on to most of the packages I offer, although I find the evening reception either between speeches and first dance or after your first dance to be the best time to set them up – this also means we can get some of your evening guests too!
