In light of recent events here in the south west where a large photography and videography company went under, leaving hundreds of couples scrambling to find cover at the last minute. I just wanted to share a few things about myself and my company.
Focused Memory Productions is my absolute passion, it is also completely and utterly MY company. I hate having to turn down couples if I am already booked in a date, but I will never go down the route of becoming a videography factory/farm. It is unfortunately all too common and easy for some companies/people to go down this route, by taking on as many weddings as they can and farming out to associate shooters and editors. This means you can take on multiple weddings on a day, however you HAVE to rely on others in order to do so. Couples can end up with a complete stranger turning up on their day, with no idea that they would be given and associate shooter! In many cases the companies who do this only care about the number of weddings they book, and therefore the amount of money they get.
So to clarify: I am the one who answers all emails and messages. I meet with my couples before the day either in person or by video call so you can put a face to my name. I film each wedding to the best of my abilities, and afterwards I spend hours carefully editing every single wedding. The only time I would ever hire an associate shooter to cover for me, is in the event of an emergency such as extreme illness. In that case I would always contact the couple beforehand to let them know, I would also only use trusted videographers who I can 100% personally vouch for the quality of their work.
All of this means I am not the cheapest out there, FMP videos is my full time time job and I don’t have any other secondary part time work. I set my prices in order to earn a living for myself, and will never over book myself which risks burning out and producing poor quality films. I can then dedicate 100% of my time and energy to all of my couples, making sure they get the best wedding video for their special day. Despite the saying, cheap doesn’t always mean cheerful…
I know that situations like the current one may mean many couples are hesitant to book, and may have lost trust in the wedding industry. There are good companies out there I promise you,  people like myself who do what they do because they love it.
I just want to end this with one key piece of advice, that can be a first very important sign about a company. Always look at whether or not they have their reviews on display, genuine reviews that have been left by previous clients and not just an image posted up with text. I have and will never hide my google and Facebook reviews, I see them as one of my best selling points because it all comes from genuine couples who have used my services. If a company doesn’t have any reviews, it’s a bad sign because you simply can not get rid of individual reviews. You either have all of them for people to read, or none of them. So if a company doesn’t have their reviews on their page, I would ask myself: what are they hiding?
